Moyamoya disease is a progressive narrowing of brain arteries with development of fragile collateral vessels.
Symptoms may include repeated weakness episodes, speech difficulty, headaches, seizures, or strokes, sometimes in children and sometimes in adults.
Imaging helps show the narrowing of the brain arteries, the tiny collateral vessels, and whether previous strokes or reduced blood flow have already occurred.
MRI, CT angiography, and catheter angiography show the vessel narrowing and collateral circulation.
Management may include stroke prevention, neurological follow-up, and revascularization surgery in selected patients.
This entry explains the condition. The next step is having a radiologist interpret your specific scan, not a general definition.
