Neurocysticercosis is infection of the brain by the larval stage of a tapeworm and can cause seizures or neurological symptoms.
The most common symptom is seizures. Other symptoms can include headache, dizziness, weakness, memory or thinking problems, and signs of raised pressure in the brain.
Imaging helps show how many cysts are present, where they are, what stage they are in, and whether there is swelling or fluid blockage in the brain.
CT and MRI help show the number, stage, and location of brain lesions and any associated swelling or hydrocephalus.
Treatment depends on the lesion stage and symptoms and may include anti-parasitic medicines, seizure treatment, steroids, or neurosurgical care.
This entry explains the condition. The next step is having a radiologist interpret your specific scan, not a general definition.
