Yersinia ileitis is inflammation of the lower small bowel caused by Yersinia infection and can sometimes resemble appendicitis or inflammatory bowel disease.
Symptoms may include pain in the lower right side of the abdomen, fever, diarrhoea, nausea, and feeling unwell, sometimes looking very much like appendicitis.
Imaging helps when doctors need to distinguish bowel infection from appendicitis, inflammatory bowel disease, or another surgical cause of abdominal pain.
CT or ultrasound may show bowel wall thickening and enlarged nodes in the right lower abdomen.
Treatment depends on severity and may include supportive care, antibiotics in selected cases, and differentiation from surgical causes of pain.
This entry explains the condition. The next step is having a radiologist interpret your specific scan, not a general definition.
