Disease

Spondylosis

Spondylosis refers to age-related wear and tear affecting the spine, discs, and surrounding joints.

About this explanation

This entry explains common radiology language and when imaging may help. It cannot tell you what is happening in your specific case. Your official report, history, examination, and treating care team determine what the finding means for you.

When it may be urgent

Urgent review is important if pain comes with arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, bladder or bowel problems, fever, or significant recent trauma.

Common symptoms

Symptoms often include neck or back pain, stiffness, pain that is worse after activity or poor posture, and sometimes tingling, numbness, or weakness if nerves are affected.

When imaging helps

Imaging helps show wear in the spine, narrowing, bone spurs, and whether the spinal cord or nerves may be under pressure.

Why radiology matters

X-rays and MRI help show degenerative change, narrowing, bone spurs, and possible nerve or cord involvement.

Usual management direction

Care may include physiotherapy, pain treatment, posture support, injections, or surgery in selected cases.

What can I do about Spondylosis?

This entry explains the condition. The next step is having a radiologist interpret your specific scan, not a general definition.

Find a centre for follow-up imaging

Browse Nigerian imaging centres for the follow-up scan or specialist visit your care plan may need.
